For 2009, the Toyota Tundra is unchanged mechanically, but it undergoes several enhancements to its trim levels. The 4x4 Double Cab SR5 long-bed model receives bucket seats, telescopic steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels with locks, eight-way power driver's seat, rear privacy glass, sliding rear window, accessory meter, overhead console box, seatback pockets, front console box and under-seat rear storage trays as standard equipment, while the 4x4 CrewMax receives a 40/20/40 split front bench seat, column-mounted shift lever, 18-inch steel wheels and manual driver's seat adjustment. The CrewMax also has an available SR5 package with front bucket seats, centre console, 18-inch alloy wheels with locks, eight-way power driver's seat, accessory meter and bed rail system with tie-down cleats.
A new I-Force ST Edition package, available on the 4x4 Regular Cab 5.7-litre and 4x4 Double Cab SR5 5.7-litre, builds on the TRD Off-Road package with 20-inch alloy wheels, tri-fold hard tonneau cover, dual exhaust, coloured grille, stainless steel side step bars, scuff plates, aluminum sport pedals, all-weather floor mats and special badges.
The Tundra is available with a choice of two engines, both V8s: a 4.7-litre with five-speed automatic, and 5.7-litre with six-speed automatic. Both engines come in two- or four-wheel drive; configuration choices are Regular, Double or CrewMax. In 4x2, the Regular Cab comes with a long bed; in 4x4, it can also be ordered with a regular bed. Trim levels are base, SR5 and Limited. The company rates all of its trucks as half-ton.
All models come with dual-zone air conditioning, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, tilt steering, cruise control, side and curtain airbags, locking glove-box, heated mirrors, trailer wiring harness, easy lower-and-lift removable locking tailgate, cargo bed tie-downs, and windshield wiper de-icer.
Depending on the model and trim line, standard or available features include leather seats, power door locks, power windows, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, towing mirrors, automatic headlamps, upgraded stereos and navigation system.
Powerful but sophisticated, the Tundra offers a high-quality interior, good handling, and features such as a bed rail cargo system and a tailgate that doesn't bang when it's dropped. Unlike some competitors, the Tundra's Double Cab configuration has front-hinged rear doors, instead of rear-hinged ones that can only be operated when the front doors are open. The Tundra's size may be a drawback for smaller drivers though, as it's very tall, and the wide centre stack can be a long reach to access all of the controls.
