For 2008, the Lincoln MKZ sedan receives several upgrades, including Lincoln's version of Ford Sync. The new system allows the driver to activate cellular telephones and music players by voice commands.
Available in a single trim line, the Lincoln MKZ is based on the Ford Fusion. It uses a 3.5-litre V6 engine with six-speed automatic transmission and can be optioned with an all-wheel drive system that delivers torque to all four wheels through an active on-demand coupler, and can transfer power front-to-rear and side-to-side.
Standard features include 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, perforated leather heated and cooled 10-way seats, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary jack and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Lincoln Sync, floor mats, full centre console, genuine wood accents, garage door opener, leather and wood tilt and telescopic steering steering wheel, overhead console, smoker's package, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with compass, power windows, cruise control, fog lamps, LED taillamps, heated mirrors with security approach lamps, memory and driver's-side auto-dimming, reverse sensing system, speed-sensitive wipers, automatic headlamps, power locks with keyless entry and keypad, anti-theft system, and tire pressure monitoring system.
Available options include chrome aluminum wheels, DVD-based navigation system, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, high-intensity discharge headlamps, power sunroof, premium stereo, aluminum trim and ambient lighting.
While it originally started as a heavily-optioned Fusion – under the name Zephyr – the MKZ has emerged with its own engine, luxury appointments and unique styling cues to stand on its own. For 2008, it holds the only sedan spot in Lincoln's line-up until the debut of the all-new MKS for 2009.
